Summer skincare Tips
We have been waiting long enough- bring on the Summer!
Along with the heat and more intense sun comes the need to rethink our skincare. Beginning of course with which SPF is going to be your best friend. Many people prefer a lightweight tinted SPF to give aw ash of color as it protects. One of the main reasons people fail with sun protection is the reapplication. When it comes to SPF, it is not a set it and forget its situation. SPF needs to be reapplied every few hours to maintain effectiveness. That is why the tinted versions are so well received. It’s like refreshing your makeup and protecting your skin all at once. Who doesn’t love that? Dermatologists suggest an SPF of 30-50, reapplied and containing a physical block such as zinc or titanium dioxide, which doesn’t irritate sensitive or acne skin types.
Now let’s look at your environment. If you spend a great deal of time outdoors, be sure to plan for intermittent breaks to both reapply SPF and allow your skin to cool down if you are prone to flushing and capillary activity. Focus on weight of products to avoid an occlusive feeling of suffocating your skin. Serums fill the bill well here. If you are indoors most of the time, the air conditioning can dry your skin so you can adjust your moisturizer accordingly.
In summer as we perspire more, our skin can get congested easier. Adding or upping your exfoliation game is needed. Two to three times per week, depending on your skin will help keep it in balance.
If you are using retinols or have just started to be aware of sun sensitivity for the first several weeks. Another good reason to wear SPF! Acclimate your skin to retinols by introducing it gradually. Two or three evenings a week is sufficient, followed by a great hydrator.
If you do find yourself with over exposed skin, seek out some red-light therapy to help promote healing and reduce redness.
Making simple tweaks and being aware of your surroundings will help you navigate through the heat with a constant glow.
