Botox vs Dysport vs Xeomin: How to Choose

All three are botulinum toxin type A, and all three work the same way: they temporarily stop the nerve signal that tells a muscle to contract, so the skin over that muscle stops creasing. The differences between them are real but smaller than the marketing suggests, and they show up in onset speed, how much the product spreads from the injection point, what else is in the vial, and price per unit. Any of the three can give you an excellent result on the right face, which is why our injectable page carries more than one. The choice comes down to your muscles, your history with injectables, and what you are trying to fix.

Where they actually differ

Onset. Dysport tends to show up first, often in two to three days. Botox and Xeomin usually take three to five days, with full effect by two weeks for all three. If you have an event next week, onset matters. If not, it is nearly irrelevant.

Spread. Dysport diffuses a bit more from where it goes in. That is an advantage across a wide, flat area like the forehead, where you want smooth coverage. It is a disadvantage in a small, precise area near the eye or mouth, where you want the product to stay put. Botox and Xeomin stay more localized.

What else is in the vial. Xeomin is what is usually called a naked neurotoxin, meaning it has no accessory proteins attached. In theory that reduces the chance of your immune system developing antibodies over years of treatment. In practice, resistance is uncommon with any of them, but if you have been getting injected for a decade and feel like results have faded, Xeomin is worth trying. Xeomin also does not need refrigeration before it is opened, which is a clinic detail rather than a patient one.

Units and pricing. This is where people get confused comparing quotes. Dysport units are not equivalent to Botox units, and the conversion is roughly two to three Dysport units per Botox unit. So a Dysport quote with a much bigger unit number is not automatically a bigger treatment or a worse deal. Compare the total price for the treated area, not the price per unit.

How long it lasts. All three typically run three to four months. Individual variation matters far more here than brand does. Metabolism, muscle strength, dose, and how much you use those muscles all affect it, and people who exercise heavily often metabolize it faster.

Choosing by what you are treating

This is closer to how we actually decide.

Forehead lines. Wide, flat area. Dysport's spread often works in your favor here.

Frown lines between the brows. Any of the three does well. This is usually the strongest muscle group on the face and it needs adequate dosing more than it needs a particular brand.

Crow's feet around the eyes. Precision matters, and the muscle involved is also the one that helps you smile. More localized products give tighter control.

A lip flip or fine lines around the mouth. Small doses, tiny margins. Precision wins. Our lip flip page covers that treatment specifically.

A gummy smile, a jaw clench, or a neck band. These are more technical placements. Product choice matters less than whoever is holding the syringe knowing the anatomy.

Long-time injectable patient who feels results slipping. Try Xeomin.

The part that actually decides your result

Brand is not the variable that makes or breaks this. Injector skill is.

Botulinum toxin relaxes whatever muscle it reaches. A heavy hand in the wrong spot gives you a frozen forehead or a dropped brow. Underdosing a strong muscle gives you three weeks of effect and a wasted appointment. Getting it right means reading how your face moves before touching a syringe, and dosing each muscle for what it is doing rather than following a chart.

Our approach on the aesthetic side is a customized one. We watch you animate, map the placements, and dose to your anatomy. That is not the same process as hormone care, and it should not be. Aesthetic results come from close attention and real experience across the different products, not from a lab panel.

Around here, the bar is pretty low on this. Plenty of places inject the same pattern into every face. We take it further by planning the treatment around how your specific face moves.

If you have not had injectables before, exploring Botox treatment options in Davenport is a gentler starting point that covers what a first appointment is like.

What neurotoxin will not do

Worth saying, because it saves disappointment.

These products relax muscles. They do not fill volume. If your concern is a hollow under the eye, a flattened cheek, thin lips, or a deep fold running from nose to mouth corner, that is a filler question, not a neurotoxin question, and our dermal filler page is the right page for it. Plenty of treatment plans use both, for different problems, in the same visit.

They also do not improve skin texture, tone, or sun damage. A crepey surface stays crepey with a relaxed muscle underneath it. That is what facials and resurfacing treatments are for.

Also available

Injectables are a standalone service here. Some clients come to us only for aesthetics and never book anything on the wellness side, and that is a completely valid reason to walk in. We bring the same comprehensive mindset to aesthetic work that we bring to everything else, but nobody has to have a wellness plan to get treated.

Book an aesthetic consult

Bring your questions and your face. We will show you what moves, talk through which product suits which area, and quote the whole treatment rather than a per-unit number.

Frequently asked questions

Which lasts longest, Botox, Dysport or Xeomin? In practice they are comparable, generally three to four months. Your own metabolism, the dose used, and how strong the treated muscle is affect duration far more than which brand you choose.

Can I switch between them? Yes. Switching is common and nothing has to be waited out beyond your normal treatment interval. If one has not been giving you the result you want, telling us that is the fastest way to a better outcome.

Is Dysport cheaper than Botox? Sometimes the total treatment cost is lower, but you cannot tell from the per-unit price because the units are not equivalent. Ask for the total for the area you are treating and compare that.

How soon can I see results? Dysport often shows in two to three days. Botox and Xeomin usually take three to five. All three reach full effect around two weeks, which is when we would evaluate whether a touch-up is needed.

Will my face look frozen? Not if the dosing is planned for your anatomy. Frozen is a dosing and placement outcome, not an unavoidable side effect. Tell your injector how much movement you want to keep, because that is a real dial and we can set it where you want it.
