TRT Cost in the Quad Cities: What to Expect

The honest answer to "how much does TRT cost" is that it depends on what is included, and the cheapest price you see online usually includes the least.

A real testosterone replacement therapy plan pays for four things: the workup, the medication, the follow-up labs, and the visits where someone adjusts your dose.

Leave any of those out and the monthly number drops, but so does the safety margin.

Here is what each piece is, what moves the total up or down, and what to ask any clinic before you sign up, including us.

What you are actually paying for

The workup

Before anyone prescribes testosterone, you need a full picture. That means a consult and a blood draw that goes well past a single testosterone number: free and total testosterone with SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) and albumin, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone), prolactin, a CBC (complete blood count) with differential, a CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel), a baseline PSA, and thyroid markers (TSH, free T4, and free T3). For some men, depending on health history and symptoms, an even more in-depth panel makes sense. At MINT, the workup also includes a body composition scan on the InBody, so we have a baseline for muscle and fat, not just weight.

This is a one-time cost at the start, and it is the part low-price programs most often trim. Skipping it is how men end up on testosterone when the real problem was their thyroid or their sleep.

The medication

Testosterone comes in several forms, and the form affects both price and how your week goes. Injections are the most common. Creams and gels are applied daily and avoid needles. Pellets are placed under the skin every few months. Each has tradeoffs in cost, convenience, and how steady your levels stay, and the right one depends on your labs and your life rather than on which is cheapest.

Follow-up labs

This is the part people forget to budget for, and it matters. At MINT, follow-up labs are included in the TRT membership. Some online programs skip them, and that can be dangerous. Once you start, we recheck free and total testosterone with SHBG and albumin, a CBC with differential, and estradiol, and we check PSA once a year. Those markers tell us the medication is doing its job safely: your dose should bring you into a healthy, therapeutic range without pushing your hematocrit (the share of your blood made up of red blood cells) or your estrogen too high. Expect labs more often in the first few months while the dose settles, then on a steadier schedule.

Visits and adjustments

Your first dose is an educated starting point, not the final answer. Follow-up visits are where the plan gets adjusted based on your labs and how you actually feel. At MINT, your initial consult and your follow-ups can be telemedicine or in person, whichever you prefer. Telemedicine is available to Iowa and Illinois residents, so men in Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island all have both options. Labs can be done at the clinic or at one of our partner labs, and body composition scans happen at the clinic.

What changes the total

A few things move the monthly number more than anything else.

How your plan is set up is the biggest one. At MINT, TRT is a membership. Doing testosterone therapy safely and well means labs at regular intervals and a team you can reach for questions and appointments, so we bundle visits, labs, and dose adjustments into one monthly amount instead of charging per visit. Memberships often include extras too, like B-12 injections given in our office or creatine to support muscle mass, at no extra charge. Our memberships page explains what each option includes.

The delivery method matters too, since different forms of testosterone are priced differently. So does how much monitoring you need, which depends on your starting labs and your health history. And if your workup shows something else going on, like a thyroid issue or blood sugar creeping up, your plan may include more than testosterone. That is a good thing to find out, but it changes the picture.

Insurance and paying for it

MINT does not bill insurance for TRT. That means your plan is built around your labs instead of around what a carrier will approve. HSA or FSA funds can often be used, and financing through Cherry is available if you would rather spread the cost. Our payment plans page has the details.

We go over real numbers with you at the consult, after we know what your plan actually needs. Pricing changes, and a number quoted before anyone has seen your labs is a guess.

When a low price is a warning sign

Ask these questions before you start TRT anywhere, including with us:

  1. Do you test more than total testosterone before prescribing?

  2. How often will you recheck my labs, and are those labs included?

  3. Who adjusts my dose, and how often do I actually talk to them?

  4. What happens if my red blood cell count or estradiol goes up?

  5. Can I come in person if I want to, or is this online only?

  6. Where does my medication come from, and what regulatory checks confirm it is pure and correctly dosed?

If the answers are vague, the low price probably reflects a plan with very little monitoring. Testosterone is ongoing medical care. The monitoring is not an upsell. It is the part that keeps the treatment safe.

That last question matters more than most people think. Some medications made outside the US are not held to the same testing standards as the US-based compounding pharmacies we use at MINT, and the wrong dose or an impure medication can be ineffective or dangerous.

Is TRT worth the cost?

For men whose low testosterone is confirmed by labs, the answer is often yes. Better energy, better sleep, and an easier time holding muscle are the changes men tend to notice. But it is a long-term commitment for most people, and you should know that going in.

If you are still at the "is this even my problem" stage, start with our post on the signs of low testosterone in men over 40. And if you want to know what your bloodwork will show, how hormone testing works walks through each marker. What Quad Cities residents should know about TRT covers the local side.

Not sure TRT is the right fit yet? A wellness consult is the place to find out. You can book one online in a couple of minutes, and you will leave knowing your numbers either way.

Get a real number for your plan

The only accurate TRT price is the one built around your labs, and getting there is simple. Start with a free Wellness Consultation Discovery Call.

It takes about 15 minutes and lets our providers get to know you, your concerns, and your health history, and decide whether labs should be done before your first visit. Labs can be paid in cash or billed through insurance, and done in our office or at one of our partner labs.

Then comes your Wellness Consultation ($150, 45 minutes to an hour), with a biometric analysis and a deep dive into your labs. We will walk you through what your plan includes and what it costs before anything starts.

Book your wellness consult online or call 563-800-MINT. We are at The Plex in Bettendorf, around the corner from the TBK Sports Complex.

Frequently asked questions

How much does TRT cost per month?

It depends on the delivery method, how often you need labs, and what your membership includes. We give you the real number at your consult, once we know what your plan includes, rather than quoting a list price that may not fit you.

Does insurance cover testosterone therapy?

MINT does not bill insurance for TRT. HSA or FSA funds can often be used, and Cherry financing is available.

Are the labs included?

Lab work is part of every TRT plan here, at the start and on an ongoing schedule. Follow-up labs are included in the TRT membership, so you are not paying for them separately. We go over your lab schedule at the consult.

Why is online TRT sometimes cheaper?

Usually because it includes less: fewer labs, less frequent dose reviews, or no in-person option. Some men are fine with that. Just compare what is included, not only the monthly number, and make sure what you are getting is safe for you: ask where the medication comes from and how often your labs are checked.

Can I do TRT follow-ups by telemedicine?

Yes. For Iowa and Illinois residents, both your initial consult and your follow-ups can be telemedicine or in person. Labs can be done at the clinic or at one of our partner labs. Body composition scans happen at the clinic, and so do B-12 injections, which are often included in the membership.

Is TRT a lifelong cost?

For many men it is ongoing, because therapy manages low testosterone rather than curing it. We talk through the long-term commitment before you start, not after.
